PEKI TRADITIONAL AREA CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF GBIDUKORZA

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs joined the chiefs and people of the Peki Traditional Area (Gbi Anyigbe) on Saturday, 6th December 2025 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Gbidukorza at Peki. The historic event was graced by dignitaries including His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana; Togbega Gabusu VII, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area; and other distinguished guests from across the country and the diaspora.

Delivering his welcome address, Paramount Chief of Peki Traditional Area, Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII expressed deep pride and gratitude for the unity, resilience, and progress of the Gbi State over the past three decades. He noted that despite numerous socioeconomic and sociocultural challenges, the people of Gbi Anyigbe and Peki have remained committed to peace, education, and community development.

Recounting the history of the Gbi people, he observed their unwavering leadership in education, church establishment, and service to the nation dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s. He emphasized that Gbis have traditionally excelled in formal employment across the country and continue to produce distinguished professionals contributing to national development.

A key highlight of this year’s celebration is the launch of an Educational Endowment Fund a visionary legacy project dedicated to supporting needy but brilliant children across the Gbi State. The fund seeks to ensure that no child is left behind due to financial constraints, thereby strengthening the human resource base of the traditional area.

The Paramount Chief called on citizens, leaders, churches, and parents to rally behind the initiative and contribute meaningfully to its success. He stressed that community-driven development remains essential in complementing government’s efforts.

He further urged the people of Peki and the broader Gbi State to align their aspirations with national development priorities and take advantage of the numerous government programmes aimed at empowering youth, supporting local businesses, and strengthening rural economies. He encouraged young people to venture into various fields of opportunity and create sustainable livelihoods.

The celebration brought together chiefs, queen mothers, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and thousands of citizens dressed in their beautiful African apparel showcasing culture, preservation, and progress.
