Hon. Minister inspects Kejetia terminal

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development has inspected the on-going redevelopment of the Kejetia Lorry Park and Central Market project in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.


After inspecting the on-going construction, the Minister expressed satisfaction and joy at the fast pace with which the construction work is being undertaken by the contractor.

He disclosed that government is very much committed to ensuring that the project is completed on schedule to enable the traders returned to the market and conduct their business.

He assured that, when the market is completed, the fire outbreaks that have characterized the Kumasi Central Market would be a thing of the past.

Hon. Collins Dauda explained that the contractor of the new market is employing the right technology to ensure that fire outbreaks become history.

"When this market is completed, the situation where traders lose their money and belongings to fire at the Central Market would be a thing of the past, as the new market is being constructed in a way that would prevent fire outbreaks," he said.

The Minister has however called for the support of all stakeholders, especially the affected traders to cooperate with the contractor for a successful completion of the project.

He commended President John Dramani Mahama for initiating the market project, adding that the President attached much importance to the development of the Ashanti Region and would continue to introduce more projects.

Mr Carlos Gala, the Project Manager at Contracta, gave the assurance that the first phase of the market which includes building over 5,000 stores and Lorry Park would be completed on schedule.

He said funds are available for the project and the workers are poised to meet the deadline.

Some traders at Kejetia commended the President, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and the Kumasi Mayor for working hard to bring the project into reality.
